EXHIBITS by Sandi Marie

Though she began with more traditional landscapes, Sandi Marie's art now combines terrestrial landscapes with knowledge acquired as an amateur astronomer.

More traditional landscape paintings by Sandi Marie, (from the past), hang in unique collections in North America, Europe, Middle East, Australia and Algiers.

February 1998 & 1999 for the Observers Group

The Ottawa chapter of the Royal Astronomical Society invited Sandi Marie to do a slide presentation of her work for their membership. It is always a very great honour to present your work before people who have the same deep interest in a subject. The following review appeared on the RASC Ottawa web site

AstroNotes - Mar 1998 - February OG Meeting
Jaye Williams (with technical support from Dad)

Astronomical artist Sandi Marie amazed us with a slide presentation of her work entitled, "Journey of the Mind."
Sandi discovered science fiction at age eight; at 12, her teachers wanted her to discover science, and following that she discovered astronomy. Many of the slides showed the universe as seen from Ottawa. Sandi uses watercolours on black matte board and has developed a new technique for the paintings.
The paintings of the constellations were amazing -- they were her mind's interpretation of the stars, but they retain detail that is easily recognized (well done, Glenn!). Sandi finished her presentation and announced that she would donate two prints of her paintings for the OG door-prize raffle. Two lucky ticket-holders took home lovely prints. Sandi had paintings and prints available for purchase after the meeting.

This review was posted after my second presentation before the RASC membership in 1998.

    September 2000

    for the National Research Council

Millenium Conferences on Creativity in the Arts and Sciences
Under the patronage of Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, NRC hosted a Science and Science Fiction Conference as part of their special Millenium Creativity Conferences, with guests from the Science and the Science Fiction communities of Canada. I was very honoured to be asked to do a video interview for this event which was coupled with a slide show presentation of some of my work. It was held at 100 Sussex Drive, the location of the NRC's auditorium in Ottawa. Boy you haven't lived until you see your face about 7 feet tall in front of you. Many thanks to Dr. Michael Greenspan for this marvellous opportunity.

Sea of Stars - Release date - Spring of 1999

    Sea of Stars

There is it one and all, my first CD and Song Book cover!!!

Okay so it isn't main stream, but it is FILK and that is just great. Many thanks to Judith Hayman for falling in love with my art and for having the audacity to put it on her CD cover. This is Judith's first CD and my first albumn cover. Let's hear it for firsts!!!!

Judith's credits on the back were as follows.
"Special and heartfelt thanks are due to:
Dave Hayman, because without him none of this project would have happened. He's organized, keeps records and loves me to death"
"Peggi Warner-Lalonde, Ken Lalonde and Glenn Simser, for encouraging me to "get on with it,"
"Freddy, (Downtown Freddy Brown), who believed in the art of the possible"
"Sandi Marie, for creating cover art that I love, and Gayle McCaskill,
for buying that art, and hanging it where I could see it and then giving it to me...."

    Let's have a filk sing

What is FILK? Well for those who are not into the Science Fiction scene, FILK is folk music with a Sci Fi flavour.
It can be totally new music or it can be traditional pieces with new words that fit the medium. Some of it is just fantastic. All of it is amateur - that's Amateur with a capital 'A'. The story goes something like this. In the preparation of a World Science Fiction Convention program book someone misspelled the word 'folk' (probably just a typo) and the tradition was born.
FILKERS gather at a convention to do all the songs that are passed on from person to person. There are concerts and some pretty big stars now who have many albums to their names.
One of the great traditions of FILK, is the sing along that is held each night of a convention, and all are invited to join in.
Songs from space, songs from the heart, songs from fantasy, songs from events like the one Fred Brown wrote about a Toronto Trek convention with a problem with preregistration lineups.
The song makes reference to me and my part in that convention and that's all I will say.

You never know how things will come your way do you?
